Laced Stripes

lace + stripes

It's a wonder how I've managed to keep this dress clean, but I can't stay away from the pretty scalloped hem. I've pretty much given up on wearing white bottoms altogether though, because I'm a stain magnet and it's hard to find a pair of pants or shorts that aren't pretty shear. This oldie but goodie is fully lined, however, and - knock on wood - has stayed in pretty good errant stain-free shape so far!

Preppy Safari

These sandals are not usually my style. They're vaguely "flatform-style" which for me would typically mean that I'm nowhere near cool and on-trend enough to pull them off. Plus I'm only 5'2" so a true flatform would likely have me looking a teeter tottering stump. However, they're more platform than flatform, which means I get the advantages of both styles - a little lift in height and length in the leg without feeling like I'm stepping around on tip-toe like a lot of other high heel sandals (i.e., they're comfortable). And the color combo gives me a great idea on how I could wear these sandals in a way that fits me - mostly prep with a dash of safari.

Crystal Gingham

I feel a bit like Cinderella at the ball in this shade of blue and wearing these sparkly loafers. Now if I could only get someone to turn a pumpkin into a shiny new sports car for me to tool around town in, I promise I'll be home before midnight (ish).

Mixed Stripes

I'm not exactly the retailer's core demographic, but once in a while, Forever 21 comes out with a winner of a piece that is wearable for someone who is not a trend-driven 18-year-old that wants to wear everything cropped, shredded and neon-bright. This dress is cotton with a cotton lining - perfect as a casual piece for warmer days. And unfortunately it's now sold out online, but I bet you can still find it in-store - or F21 also carries a flippy skirt and fun romper with this same print/material mix.

Blues and Black

blues + faryl robin blues + faryl robin

You can't really beat a loose button-down shirt and jeans for an easy, comfortable outfit. But to keep myself from looking too casual (i.e., sloppy), I concentrated on inserting some fun details. Like the sequin side-stripe on the shirt, the cutout jewelry and "hidden" statement necklace, plus these strappy heels that also happen to be literally out-of-the-box comfortable. It's one of my versions of getting dressed (but not really).

Neon Neutral

neon yellow + grey

Photos can't seem to capture how highlighter bright this sweater is, so much so I think I probably glow in the dark a bit. It's a fun piece I couldn't say no to, however, so to be able to wear it out - avoid standing in direct sunlight, hehe - I paired it with more understated tones. I still was dubbed "Safety Lisa" by my office mates for the day though ... oh the conditions I must work under all in the name of style.
