Ricochet Stripes

bailey ricochet bailey ricochet

Last day in June, ladies. Can you believe that half of 2014 is literally gone? Here's a virtual toast to all of you for much success and happiness in the latter half of this year!

I'll be moving in the next week or so, so we are in full pack/throw out/repair mode. Getting ready each morning is becoming a bit of a chore as things are no longer where I remember them being, and granted I've pretty much labeled every. single. box we're packed, it's become a bit of a treasure hunt every day. And moving day? Not looking forward to that unavoidable cluster ... ...

On to more cheery business - for those of you in the States, what are your plans for the upcoming July 4th holiday?

Camo Meets Chiffon

fancy camo stripes

While I adore those fluffy full tulle skirts that I've seen all over the style blogosphere, it just doesn't seem like a practical piece to wear in real day-to-day life. To me, tulle skirts are party gear and just doesn't make sense as something you'd want to don for work or even out to lunch in - there's just so much fluffiness.

I know, what's this craziness with a person with a style blog talking about the "practicalities" of fashion ... But as my life seems to be lacking in fancy dress tea party invitations right now, this skirt is about as poufy ballerina as I think I can manage for a while.

If you're a tulle skirt devotee (more power to you, by the way) what do you don your fluffy frock to? Do you treat it like special occasion wear or do you throw caution to the wind and take it for spin just to go get coffee?

Stars and Stripes

stars & stripes stars & stripes

I'm pretty much star and striped out, so you all already know what I'll be rewearing for the U.S. Independence Day holiday coming up. Plus this fun little dress is made out of t-shirt material, so I am way too comfy and feeling once again like I'm cheating about getting dressed. I like this little striped number so much that I also got it in the solid blue color.

But you know I couldn't just stick to the navy and white and keep it all neutral, right? This bold bag is the eye-popping (and I mean it, it is B-right) accent that I always seem to need to have in my ensembles.

Boulevard Tunic and Gathered Shoulders

gathered boulevard

I got this coat about a month ago and wore it on my trip to Cologne recently. It was the perfect light layering piece that made me look like I'm trying, despite my slouchy tees or whatever else I might have had on beneath it. And the slightly shiny woven fabric lets the rain roll off in a drizzle and cheaps a chilly wind at bay (plus it's on sale right now).

Granted that makes this awesome coat immediately too warm to wear in the southeast but I went ahead and did it earlier this month because I felt like this coat needed to be pranced around a bit before I save it up for fall and winter.

Boardwalk Linen Two Ways

boardwalk linen 1  boardwalk linen 2

This lovely polka dotted skirt has not gotten enough love from me. I've shamefully only worn this piece once since I purchased it on sale last year. So when the factory store came out with a copycat version, I was reminded that I had this easy-going piece (I know, my closet is sometimes a black hole where clothes are hung up and simply absorbed) and made a point to wear it more often. Here are two of my recent iterations for this skirt - how would you recommend wearing this piece?

Gilded Estates Gone Dotty

gilded polka dots

The purply pinkly hue of these shoes and bag match so perfectly well together that I can't seem to pair one without the other. It's way too easy for my matchy-obsessed self. And of course I always seem to want to wear these pieces when I reach for this Anthro skirt - which I also wear all the time paired with black and white, so this whole color combo has been repeated many a time already (like here and here). Hey, if it works, why fight it, right?

Are there particular items in your wardrobe that you feel like need to go together?

Bejeweled Periwinkle

blue ikat

So I made the mistake of downloading the game Bejeweled onto my phone over the weekend at the recommendation of a friend and let's just say after that happened, nothing productive has been done. Bejeweled is pretty much the most pointlessly addictive time suck ever.

For those of you lucky enough to be unfamiliar, Bejeweled is a series of tile matching games where the tiles are shaped like gems and the more like tiles you stack and explode at a time, the higher your score. Now that doesn't probably sound so tempting but once you're in, you're in. Ooh, the colors, the explosions, the high scoring - remember to blink!

Hopefully this slight game addiction will soon pass, but in the interim, I might be playing as I cook, on the treadmill, at the dog park, and might even have woken up in the middle of the night and instead of rolling over, picked up my phone to stack some gems. In fact, as I have a few free minutes now ...

Pom Pom Stripes

pom pom stripes

Granted I blog as a hobby, but I kind of feel like I haven't been a very good blogger in these past few weeks. Life has been a wee bit more hectic than usual - work, travel, work, travel, plus I'm moving soon! - and some things that I enjoy doing but aren't a priority tend to fall to the wayside a little bit. So please bear with me for a few more weeks as I attempt to juggle the regular everyday with packing my life up in boxes. Spots and stripes make it easy to get dressed, and of course, my fave no-fail shoes.

Neon Yellow and a Must Have Box

neon yellow

Subscription boxes have been around for a few years now but due mostly to mass indecisiveness, I've yet to partake. There are food-related ones, beauty, fashion, etc. and I didn't know which to try. So when POPSUGAR approached me about their Must Have boxes, I was seriously intrigued.

What makes the POPSUGAR Must Have boxes immediately stand out to me above the other box services out there is that their monthly boxes cover a little bit of all my fave things - food, fashion, beauty and a little stylish miscellany. Plus I get access to full-size products versus little samples.

Boxes are $39.95 per month (including shipping - discounts apply if you sign up for multi-months, though read their terms so you're aware of their cancellation policy) for the program.

I received the June Must Have box which had a decidely beachy laidback theme and got the following items:

must have box

Emily Griffin The One and Only
I haven't bought a honest to goodness physical book since I got my Kindle. But I totally miss the feel of cracking open a good read and flipping the pages. I've been a fan of Emily Giffin since Something Borrowed, so I'm looking forward to some light-hearted summer reading.

Sachajuan Shiny Citrus Body Lotion
Smells citrus-y and goes on my skin without feeling greasy. Plus the lotion contains Swedish oats which will help to calm irritation if you're been out in the sun and surf for too long. This lotion smells fantastic!

Turkish-T Beach Towel
It's beach towel size but balls up into nothing and is light enough to wear as a wrap or scarf. The pretty aqua and white is such a great color combo, I may have no beach to be going to in the near future but I already have plans to wear this as a fun warm weather scarf.

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes
Not over-perfumed or chemical-smelling like some other wipes, these come individually packed for easier transport. Plus each wipe is actually big enough to be useful, thank you!

Lillies Basics Hair Ties
With the gold-tone metal accent and braiding, these ties can be worn as bracelets when not in use, and they're made out of swimsuit fabric, which means the ties don't stretch out with use. I'm wearing one as I type and literally it's not pulling my hair nor loosening up, so my pony's all snug.

One Potato Two Potato Hawaiian BBQ kettle chips
They're cooked in small batches in sunflower oil and taste delish! This item obviously was the first item opened and consumed in the box. Yum.

Native Union $15 Gift Card
These guys make really cool gadget accessories, like leather USB connectors and phone cases. I envision a new iPhone cover in my future!

neon yellow neon yellow

Granted almost $40 a month is a bit pricey for a subscription box service but the total cost of these items individually more than makes up for the price of a box. I think it'd be a fun gift to give a friend as a little treat for yourself. And for those afraid of making a commitment, POPSUGAR's also go limited edition seasonal boxes available too.

As a treat, POPSUGAR is offering a $10 discount off a 3-month subscription to their Must Have box. Use code JUNESELECT10 when placing your order - code expires on June 30!

POPSUGAR provided me with a complimentary POPSUGAR Must Have box. The opinions I have shared about the box are my own and POPSUGAR did not tell me what to say or how to say it.
